CT Scan / HRCT Explained

What exactly is a CT scan/HRCT ?

A computed tomography scan (also known as a CT or CAT scan) is an imaging method that allows doctors and radiologists to create detailed images of the inside of our body using a combination of X-rays and a computer.

CT scan allows pictures of our organs, bones, and other tissues to be taken.

Although CT scan utilizes X-ray technology, they show more detail than a routine X-ray would and are instrumental in diagnosing a variety of conditions.

Methodology of its working:

1) By using the X-ray beams to circle around one part of our body, CT scan provides a group of pictures at different angles.

2) A computer uses this information to create a cross-sectional image. The computer stacks these scans one on top of the other to create a detailed picture of the affected area.

3) The test requires the patient to lie on a table inside a large, doughnut-shaped CT machine.

4) As the table slowly moves through the scanner, the X-rays rotate around our body.

Duration of the scan:

Duration of the CT scan depends on the area of the body being scanned as well as what the radiologist is looking to diagnose. On an average, the scan should take around 30 minutes, if no contrast dye is needed.

The most important aspect of Radiation during the CT scan-

The patient will be exposed to some radiation during a CT scan, but the amount is minimal. The chances of radiation from the CT scan causing cancer is very, very small, and the risk of CT scan radiation is well worth the risk since it allows the doctors and radiologists to diagnose and treat a life-threatening illness of the patient that would’ve otherwise gone undetected.

Purpose of the CT scan:

CT scans can diagnose possibly life-threatening conditions such as hemorrhage, blood clots, or cancer. An early diagnosis of these conditions could potentially be life-saving .CT scan inHyderabad  at Tesla Diagnostics is also used to detect:
